Catching Up With The Dirt

As I mentioned about a week ago, I will be posting GottaDanceDirty's weekly round up The Dirt. I have been distracted with a few things going on and have not been able to post the last 2 they sent me.

GDD is an LA based electronic music blog, they cover all different genres of electronic music. The Dirt - August 20th has some great tracks from AC Slayter a personal favorite of mine and Crookers, along with several other solid tracks. Click the link above for the easy to download tracklist.

Besides good taste in awesome album art, the crew at GDD also great taste in music. Here is the link to the Aug 12th installment of The Dirt again check it out for the easy to download and burn tracklist. Enjoy the music and we can look forward to more filthy tracks in a few days.

My favorite track off Dirt- Aug 12th is by none other than Wolfgang Gartner... here is the soundcloud of the Classixx - Cold Act III (Monster Mix)

Stay Classy Internet

The Weather Sucked, Booze Was Free & Music Was Awesome

Thanks to Caroline and the rest of the All Saints Crew for throwing an awesome party and inviting us! Sunday was a rainy and awful day. But the free indoor bar made it pretty easy to tolerate. I didn't know what to expect going to BK and a trendster scene, but it was awesome.

Because of the rain, we stayed inside until Chromeo took the stage. Kid Sister and the other band that was on first sounded pretty good from inside. Than Chromeo killed it, i cant remember the exact set list, but Night by Night was awesome. It started raining again mid way through the set, which in my mind made it better (but it could have been the countless rum and cokes talking).

After the show we met Dave 1 (above) and P-Thugg (below). That was pretty cool, so now toosteezy is actually gaining some legit street cred!

Allegedly there is another concert this weekend. I highly recommend people attend, its a free show! Come on people and its super easy to get there.

Chromeo Aug 22nd

This weekend I am going to check out Chromeo and Kid Sister (hopefully A-Trak makes a guest appearance). They are playing at the All Saints Spitalfields, Jelly Pool Party in Brooklyn. Its a free show from 2pm-8pm. The address is on the invite above. Check it and if your in the area you should stop by for a nice sunday funday.

Chromeo is an electrofunk duo based in Montreal. Composed of P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) on keyboards, synthesizers, and talk box, and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch) on guitar and lead vocals. The two childhood friends jokingly describe themselves as "the only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture." (wikipedia) Dave 1 is the older brother of A-Trak.

The two met in high school when Macklovitch joined Gemayel's band, around the time they were both 15. During this time, Macklovitch's brother A-Trak started winning the DMC championships, becoming World Champion in 1997.After the band, Dave 1 and P-Thugg started to produce hip hop together. Dave 1 and P-Thugg signed as Chromeo in 2001, and started creating tracks in 2002.

The debut album, She's in Control, released in 2004, defined Chromeo and started their music career. Reviews were mostly favorable, comparing the sound to 80's groups like Hall & Oates, Klymaxx and Sylvester. "Needy Girl" became a world wide club hit. After a three year break, they released a second album, Fancy Footwork, which was also positively reviewed.

Most recently, Chromeo contributed to K7's compilation titled DJ-Kicks: Chromeo. In summer 2010 the track 'Fancy Footwork' was used as the sound track for a VO5 Extreme Hair Gel advertisement in the UK. The YouTube video of the original release in 2008 had over 666,000 hits by late July 2010.
Chromeo is working on their third studio album entitled Business Casual set to release September 14, 2010. The released track, "Night by Night" will be on this album. On June 29 the new song "Don't Turn the Lights On" was released.

If you are not familiar with Chromeo, here are some of their tracks....

Monday Music and Updates

There are some changes for the better here at toosteezy. First, I want to welcome another contributor to the site. BC will be all up in hurrrr, writing about all things steezy. I am pumped to have him on board, as this little hobby has started to become more and more time consuming. But also more enjoyable when I hear people like what we have going on here. So if you like it let us know!

Secondly, we have added some events to our busy schedule of parties and shows. Aug, 22nd Chromeo will be playing a free show in Brooklyn, part of The Pool Parties concert series. I will be at that with my man PJ aka Young Money. Also last weekend's featured artist Na Palm will be joining Sam Adams at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT on Sept 1. I will be there with a small but dedicated crew. For tickets or venue info check the links on the right side bar.

Now lets get back to what this all started for, some good old fashioned dance tracks.

Dirty Girls Like Dirty Beats

If you don't know now you know...

Let me introduce you to Na Palm. Straight out of Chicago this guy is blowing up, and deservedly so. I wanted to post something about him after last week when I posted his single "Whats Yo Name". So being the best music blogger ever, I did some work and got his recently released mixtape.

This thing is amazing, Na Palm pumps out some straight bangin party tracks, "Two Days Straight" is what really turned me on to him. With influences like Deadmau5 and the Chicaco House scene his music features some dirty electro beats that rock the house.

Dirty Girls Love Dirty Beats, displays his lyrical agility. He moves from bangers and party tracks, too straight flow old school hip hop style. Nay also has an unreal story telling ability. "Time to Rise" shows off his emotional side, going back to the hustle and his motivation to make it. With a smooth beat and a great vocal chorus its a total Jam.

In an interview with BroBible he says that his move to hip-hop "... came about by accident as a result of me being a dope freestyler at late-night parties." And now he is just a dope ass lyrical genius.

Often times you get a mixtape with a few jams, and some filler just to keep you interested. I was talking to my boy BC about Nay and this mixtape, and we had to agree there is no filler. As Nay said "There are no gimmicks in my shit. It's all real on the surface and within, so I think peeps see how genuine I am and connect with that."

Every song on here should be in the clubs, on the radio and blasting out of your headphones. Nuff said...., Dirty Girls Like Dirty Beats. Download it, enjoy it and get ready for his rise to the top. Without a doubt the next big thing in hip-hop
PS - Socpe those bad ass tee's. Toosteezy needs to get involved with that. You can get them off his FB.
